Think Pink: Construction workers on biotech health care project show support for breast cancer awareness

 |  Updates

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, which means everyone is thinking pink – even construction workers on the job site. Yesterday, Sundt workers on the Health Sciences Education Building (HSEB) joined project partners, staffers and others from the University of Arizona to form a pink ribbon out of hard hats in a breast cancer awareness event on the College of Medicine – Phoenix campus.

EMCOR Group, Inc., a Fortune 500® leader in mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services for a diverse range of businesses, organized the event with workers from its University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors, Inc. subsidiary helping form the ribbon at the HSEB job site.

Representatives of the College of Medicine – Phoenix and University of Arizona Cancer Center also donned EMCOR Pink Hard Hats on the construction site of the education building, which will be home to the expanded downtown Phoenix medical school and other health education upon completion in 2012. The event was part of EMCOR’s “Protect Yourself. Get Screened Today” campaign and more than 170 employees from the organizations formed themselves into the shape of a giant human pink ribbon, the international symbol of breast cancer awareness.

This health care project is a joint venture between Sundt and DPR Construction. Los Angeles-based CO Architects, specialists in architecture for education and health care, is the design and executive architect for HSEB, working with the Phoenix office of Ayers Saint Gross, which serves as the associate and master plan architect.
