Sundt Construction Awarded $24.1 Million Civil Construction Project In Fort Worth, Bridge To Be First Of Its Kind In Texas

Sundt was recently awarded the contract to rebuild Fort Worth’s West Seventh Street bridge by the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Transportation Commission. Estimated at $24.1 million, the civil construction project is the first win with TxDOT for Sundt’s San Antonio-based Texas District. The bridge will serve as the gateway between the city’s downtown and cultural district.

“We take pride in being selected by TxDOT to work on this project and are eager to improve the West Seventh Street Bridge for the Fort Worth community, the Seventh Street Business Association and nearby business owners,” said John Carlson, senior vice president and Texas District manager.

The proposed renovations will widen and reconstruct the four-lane bridge with 10-foot sidewalks, improving safety and pedestrian access and adding to the architectural redevelopment efforts underway in the corridor. While improving pedestrian and automobile traffic, it will allow room for alternative modes of transit in the future.

The TxDOT’s design for the project consists of six arch spans across the Trinity River, making it the first bridge of its kind in Texas due to the arch’s pre-cast, post-tensioned structure. Sundt will begin construction of the arches off-site in 2012 to help minimize traffic and lane closures. The new West Seventh Street Bridge is scheduled for completion in 2013.
