Sundt Project: Arizona Sonora Desert Museum

 |  Updates

Located just outside of Tucson, the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum was founded in 1951 by two local naturalists. The approach was grounded in conservation with a vision to promote an appreciation of the region’s unique flora and fauna. In 2007, the museum decided to expand its facilities and hired Sundt as its general contractor. The facility features a mix of new sustainable buildings. Among the green features that were added through this expansion include: rainwater harvesting, photo voltaic panels, daylighting, a green roof and a 100-foot-long movable glass wall that opens to a panoramic view of the desert. In 2007, the project received “Heroes of Horticulture” Award.
