Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®)

To promote greater environmental and social responsibility and to improve the overall quality of life for Americans, the U.S. green Building Council created the LEED rating system, transforming the way buildings and communities are designed. This system outlines stringent criteria that measure a building’s performance in five key areas of human and environmental health:

• sustainable site development
• water savings
• energy efficiency
• materials selection
• indoor environmental quality

The demand for sustainable design is growing, as is our experience. We employ over 130 LEED-accredited professionals and have built numerous environmentally-friendly construction projects, including Building B of the Biodesign Institute of Arizona, the first LEED Platinum building certified in the Southwest. Sundt is also part of the Sony Headquarters Building project located in San Diego, California, which is one of the largest projects to be LEED certified in Southern California.

Sundt is involved in over $1.6 billion worth of projects that have already attained or plan to seek LEED certification.

In addition to the LEED system, Sundt has experience on several other rating systems for sustainable construction including the Energy Star™ and Green Globes™ rating tools. Our Federal Group has extensive experience working with the Energy Star™ rating systems for housing, including projects at Fort Huachuca in Southern Arizona valued over $125 million. We also have been on the leading edge of delivering sustainable buildings in the Design Build environment, such as the UC Davis Graduate School of Management.

We continue to be an industry leader in green practices and have recently been named the nation's 11th largest builder of sustainable buildings, the 5th largest builder of green multi-unit residential structures and the 4th largest builder of green educational facilities. A culture of sustainability.

Our sustainability efforts don't end with our clients. Sundt's new corporate headquarters was constructed to meet the strict standards for LEED Gold certification. It exhibits the latest in technology, sustainability and smart design and serves as a telling example of our commitment to green building.

We’ve also directed our sustainability efforts across the entire company. From offices and jobsites to construction equipment and suppliers, we have established short- and long-term goals to make each sector more sustainable.

Efforts to reduce waste and conserve energy include establishing an extensive office and jobsite recycling program, and switching to paper with post-consumer recycled content.

Sundt is also targeting the greening of our fleet by purchasing vehicles with high fuel efficiency and studying the use of biodiesel and low-sulfur fuels for our construction equipment.

Other efforts include the incorporation of a paperless billing system on our projects and providing virtual meeting rooms for our employees where they can post ride share opportunities for corporate travel.
