This 123,000-square-foot education center offers spaces for students to explore a variety of career paths. Facilities include a TV studio, auto-tech shop, construction lab, medical lab and more. The center’s modern educational design also includes a “learning stair” instead of a traditional auditorium—a feature that, according to School Planning and Management magazine, “[…] offers a formal and informal area for gathering, teaching, transporting, socializing and performing in a highly flexible, amphitheater-style environment.” The Sundt team overcame early budget challenges to keep this project on track, using methods such as substituting a similar material for expensive limestone veneer to save costs without impacting students’ learning experience. Completed in 2017, the CTE center is now helping to prepare WFISD’s high-schoolers for direct entry into careers or college.
