The addition was constructed within an operating hospital campus. Extensive infection control procedures were employed at the interface with the existing hospital. Sundt also constructed extensive upgrades to the hospital's Central Plant.

Established in 1961 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet on Tucson's east side, Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital provides the community with a wide range of comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services. Sundt constructed a five-story, 164,000-square-foot addition to the hospital. The new wing houses 168 patient rooms, operating rooms, a birthing center and a neonatal care unit. The project included a three-level parking structure for 437 vehicles.
