Wooten|Sundt Reaches Milestone on Las Cruces High School Project

 |  Press Release

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Dec. 8, 2014) – Wooten|Sundt, a joint venture of Sundt Construction, Inc. (https://www.sundt.com/) and Wooten Construction, recently held a “topping out” event to celebrate the last steel going into the framework of the Las Cruces High School campus project, an $82 million renovation of the city’s oldest high school.

The recent milestone signifies crews have completed about 60 percent of the project’s first phase, which was awarded to Wooten|Sundt for $36 million. Designed by architect Alley Associates, PC & ASA Architects, the project includes several new parking lots and athletic fields, as well as 156,000 square feet of structural additions anchored by a two-story classroom building, administration areas, a media center and a performing arts laboratory. A highlight of the project is a pedestrian bridge connecting the new and old portions of the campus, built over one of the busiest streets in Las Cruces.

“Once phase I is complete, Las Cruces High School will have an entirely new look,” said Sundt Project Director Kelly Pettigrew. “The new campus additions will not only help improve student flow between classes but will provide a safer environment for one of the state’s most populated high schools.”

A prominent general contractor in the Southwest, Sundt has completed many notable projects in the region, including the machine gun training range at Fort Bliss, Texas; New Mexico State University Chamisa Village in Las Cruces; and the West Seventh Street Bridge in Fort Worth, Texas.

Wooten Construction is a full-service general contractor that has constructed more than 100 educational facilities for the Las Cruces Public Schools, New Mexico State University, Gadsden Independent School District, and Hatch Valley Schools.
