Two Northern California Charities Receive $9,000 in Grants from Sundt Foundation

 |  Press Release

SACRAMENTO (June 21, 2017) – The Sundt Foundation recently awarded two grants to support youth in foster care and children and young adults with neurological disabilities.

A $5,500 grant was awarded to Alternative Family Services, a foster care, mental health and adoption agency that has cared for thousands of Northern California foster youth and families since 1978. Its mission is to support vulnerable children and families in need of stability, safety and well-being in communities.

“The Sundt Foundation grant will provide critical needs and services to almost 300 foster youth in the Sacramento region,” said Jennifer Harper, the Director of Development and Marketing for Alternative Family Services. “Tutoring, one-to-one mentoring, enrichment opportunities and therapeutic tools will be available to foster youth because of Sundt’s generosity. A foster youth’s path in life can be positively affected from any one of these critical needs and services.”

Sundt also awarded a $3,500 grant to Ride to Walk, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of children and young adults with neurological disabilities by providing therapeutic horseback riding activities that are adapted to the individual’s needs and disabilities.

The grant will be used for program support for children enrolled in Ride to Walk’s ongoing therapeutic program. The majority of the organization’s families are low and moderate income, and through grants, donations and fundraises, Ride to Walk offers the families therapeutic sessions at reduced or no cost. Program participants have better relationships with their families, friends and community and develop the confidence to face challenges and overcome their disabilities.
