Sundt Foundation Donates to Five San Diego Charities
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (December 14, 2018) – During its fourth-quarter distribution, the Sundt Foundation donated $5,000 to Feeding San Diego to support 40 school food pantry sites across the county.
The school pantry program increases food security for underserved families and children by encouraging healthy eating and providing a community-building space within the schools. The bi-monthly distributions provide a variety of fresh produce and food staples that allow families to select the foods right for them. Feeding San Diego anticipates it will distribute enough food to make up over 1.8 million meals this coming year.
“Being able to provide food and resources to children and families across our community allows us to fulfill our company’s purpose,” said Victoria Trebian, the Sundt Foundation’s San Diego region board member. “Selecting organizations like Feed San Diego, Association for Human-Animal Bond Studies, the Emilio Nares Foundation, Wounded Warrior Home and the Special Olympics also allows us to impact those who are underserved in our community.”
The Sundt Foundation awarded a total of $13,500 in grants to San Diego-area nonprofits during its fourth-quarter disbursements. Other fourth-quarter grants include:
Association for Human-Animal Bond Studies received $1,000 to support the health of six pets and their families. The organization explores the interconnectedness between people and animals by educating the community about the benefits of spaying and neutering their pets, as well as responsible pet ownership.
The Emilio Nares Foundation received $3,000 to support Ride with Emilio – San Diego, ensuring that low-income San Diego children with cancers are able to attend their treatment appointments. The Foundation started in 2003 after five-year-old Emilio lost his brave battle with cancer. Ride with Emilio has traveled more than 105,00 miles annually, taking 220 patients to more than 2,000 treatment appointments.
Wounded Warrior Homes, which received $2,000, provides up to two-and-a-half years of transitional housing, food supply and case management services for veterans. The organization assists in developing a plan and locating the resources necessary that will lead to independent living.
Special Olympics Southern California – San Diego Region received $2,500 to support year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
The Sundt Foundation awards grants quarterly to area charities that support disadvantaged children and families. Nonprofits are selected through an application process and reviewed by a committee of Sundt employee-owners.
