Sundt Foundation Awards $15,500 To Local Nonprofits

TUCSON (Dec. 13, 2013) – Sundt Construction, Inc.‘s Tucson employees have selected 11 local nonprofit organizations to receive Sundt Foundation grants totaling $15,500 this quarter. The Sundt Foundation was established by Sundt in 1999 to give its employee-owners a means of giving back to their communities. It provides financial support to nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children and adults. Most grants are made to organizations in the communities where Sundt has offices and construction projects. The Foundation is funded primarily by contributions from Sundt employees and company matching. To date, the organization has awarded more than $5 million in donations to organizations throughout Arizona, California, Texas and beyond. Here’s a closer look at the Tucson organizations that recently received funding.

$2,250 Grant Recipient
Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona will use the grant money to meet the needs of the hungry in the Tucson community by promoting education and advocacy, as well as providing the acquisition, storage and distribution of food.

$1,750 Grant Recipient
Sister Jose Women’s Shelter
will use the funds to provide compassion, dignity and respect to homeless women in the Tucson area through shelter and support services.

$1,500 Grant Recipients (5)
Interfaith Community Services
will use the funds to help Pima County seniors, individuals with disabilities and people in financial crisis achieve stable and independent lives through programs and services supported by staff, diverse faith communities and the community at large.

Beacon Group will use the grant money to continue providing employment related opportunities to people with disabilities through training, development and access to real work.

Make Way for Books (MWFB) will use the grant money to foster and support the success of children in the community by cultivating a love of books and reading through a full continuum of early literacy education, programs and resources.

Educational Enrichment Foundation (EEF) will use the funds to provide enhanced and enriched learning resources for Tucson Unified School District students (TUSD), teachers and schools; advocate for educational excellence for all children and ensure access to educational enrichment opportunities within TUSD for financially in-need students.

Pima Council on Aging will use the grant money to continue serving Pima County older adults and their families by providing home- and community-based aging services, supportive assistance and local resource connections for family caregivers.

Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona will use the grant money to provide more than 14,000 girls ages 5 to 17 across Arizona with life-skills programs and leadership-building opportunities.

Boy Scouts of America, Catalina Council will use the funds to offer programs and activities that instill values and teach life skills to young people in the community.

Top Dog, Inc. will use the funds to improve the lives of people with physical disabilities by teaching them how to train their dog to become a certified service dog.

University of Arizona Foundation will use the grant money to provide assistance to the University through fundraising, asset management and facilitation.
