Sundt Construction Completes Student Services Center at Yuba Community College

 |  Press Release

CLEARLAKE, Calif. (Nov. 6, 2012) – Sundt Construction, Inc. recently completed three new buildings to house student and instructional services at Yuba Community College’s Clear Lake campus. The $13.4 million project includes the school’s library and learning resource center, along with culinary arts classrooms, science laboratories and administrative offices.

The facilities, which are pending LEED Silver certification and total 28,000 square feet, replace several 37-year-old modular buildings where the services were formerly located.

“Education is such an important part of any community, and studies have shown that a correlation exists between student achievement and school facilities,” said Kristy Weiland, Sundt project manager. “Our team takes special satisfaction in knowing that the work we’re doing on the Clear Lake campus is providing students and faculty with updated facilities that can enhance the learning experience. The project is a perfect match for Sundt’s education construction experience, which in California ranges from student housing and service facilities to athletics buildings at universities and colleges throughout the state.”

Sundt worked closely with campus officials to minimize inconvenience and maximize safety for students and staff throughout construction. For example, crews quickly responded to a request from administrators to rebuild a sidewalk between two existing buildings so that student foot traffic and campus flow were not disrupted at the start of summer school.

TLCD was the architect on this project, while Sundt served as the general contractor, responsible for the demolition, site work, utilities and construction. The student services center project began in May 2011 and was completed by the end of August 2012. Project construction was funded exclusively by Measure J Bond revenue, which district voters approved in November 2006.
