 |  Press Release

FORT POLK, La. (Mar. 3, 2014) – Sundt Construction, Inc. completed a three-story Unaccompanied Enlisted Personnel Housing (UEPH) barracks at the Fort Polk installation in Louisiana, providing housing for 270 single personnel. The $24.3 million federal construction project was procured by the Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District.

The 98,820-square-foot UEPH facility consists of 135 apartment-style units, each with two bedrooms, one bathroom and a kitchen. Interior finishes include textured and painted gypsum board walls and ceilings, oak wood cabinets with solid surface countertops and vinyl and porcelain tile floors. A masonry brick veneer, standing seam metal roof and fenestrations with moldings and columns complete the exterior of the New Orleans/Natchitoches architectural-style building.

As the general contractor on the project, Sundt’s associated site work included new utilities and the construction of a 202-car parking lot with two double electric-vehicle charging stations. The new barracks also include amenities such as covered ramadas with tables, horseshoe pits, and a multi-use court for basketball and other activities.

Keeping sustainability in mind, Sundt and architect Michael Baker, Jr. Inc. included several energy- and water-saving features, such as low-flow plumbing fixtures, occupant sensor lighting and the use of LED lights. The UEPH facility is currently pending LEED Gold certification.

Sundt’s work in the military sector includes construction of Warrior in Transition barracks at Fort Hood, Texas; a combat aviation brigade hot refuel facility at Fort Bliss, Texas; UEPH barracks at Fort Campbell; and a flight simulator facility at Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Ariz.
