Carrie has a bachelor’s degree in journalism, an MBA and 10 years of experience in public relations and marketing. She’s a member of the Greater Tucson Leadership Class of 2016, a 40 Under 40 Award winner and is president-elect of the Public Relations Society of America’s Southern Arizona Chapter.

As one of our newer employee-owners, Carrie recently answered a few questions about herself and her enthusiasm about joining our team.

What interested you about working for Sundt?

I knew the name Sundt from our presence in Tucson and the projects we have in our community. I also had the chance to get to know (Corporate Director of Marketing) Stefanie Teller through our board work for the Public Relations Society of America’s Southern Arizona Chapter and respected her very much. When I saw the public relations specialist position open up, it gave me the opportunity to learn more about Sundt. I was impressed by the company’s longevity, charitable efforts and diverse work portfolio. All of that influenced my decision to apply to Sundt, and I’m excited to be a part of the team now.

What are you learning about the construction industry?

Gosh, what am I not learning? My background is in journalism and marketing, and most recently, I was handling marketing and communications for a hospice so construction is all new to me. I need to start keeping a pocket dictionary on my phone for all the new terms and acronyms I’m learning.

How do you think this new position will benefit the company and its clients?

I hope that I am able to help put Sundt’s name out in the communities we’re serving, to let them know who we are, our talents as a construction company and our commitment to being good community members. For our clients, I hope that my work can help build excitement and give them positive feedback about their projects. I think people always have curiosity around construction projects in their cities and towns, and I want to turn that curiosity into excitement and anticipation.

What are you most excited about regarding the job?

The opportunity to expand my PR skills. I’m especially glad I can do it with a company that is so well-known and respected in the community and the industry. Sundt is a much larger organization than the one I most recently came from, and I think the number of projects we have and the multiple areas we’re in give me the chance to really challenge myself and grow. Additionally, from what I’ve learned so far about many of our ongoing projects, they can have significant impact on a community. It’s nice to know I’m part of an organization that helps places grow and improve.

Where do you like to travel?

I don’t make traveling a priority item and so I tend to travel only when I need or want to visit people. People and places on my list to visit in the next year are my sister in Los Angeles, in-laws and friends in New Jersey, and my best friend in Dallas.

What are your favorite TV shows?

My favorite shows ever are definitely “Friday Night Lights” and “Gilmore Girls.” I could watch both of them over and over again. I am eagerly counting down the days to the Netflix release of “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” and I won’t be talking to anyone until I’ve finished binging all four episodes. Currently, I have a show for every night of the week, but I would say my favorites are “This Is Us,” “Jane the Virgin” and “Fresh Off the Boat.” “This Is Us” tugs at the heartstrings and requires a few tissues every week; “Jane the Virgin” is a lovely blend of outrageous and heartwarming and “Fresh Off the Boat” is funny and relatable for me.
