M.M. Sundt founded the company in 1890 in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Over the past year, Sundt celebrated a rich history of transforming the built environment. It’s a story 125 years in the making, built on successful projects and strong relationships that make us a trusted partner in the construction industry.

Much of the content can be found on our 125th anniversary microsite. From office buildings and power plants to a foreign embassy, “The 125” is a testament to what is possible when contractor and client work together toward a common goal.

It’s a story that began in 1890 when Sundt was founded by Mauritz Martinsen Sundt, a Norwegian ship carpenter who came to the U.S. as a teenager, and continues today with more than 1,200 employee-owners and offices in three states.

It’s a company that survived The Great Depression and, more recently, The Great Recession, to emerge with the consistent purpose of providing clients with the highest quality work both on time and on budget.

It’s a workforce that believes in contributing to the communities it serves. The Sundt Foundation, funded by our employee-owners and company, has given more than $7.2 million in awards and grants to nonprofits in its 16-year history.

It’s a commitment to training our employee-owners. This year, we established the Center for Craft Excellence to develop and retain the talented craftsmen and women who work on our jobsites. As we move into our next 125 years, we will self-perform more work for better quality control and customer savings.

We are proud of our legacy and grateful to the customers, partners and employee-owners who made the first 125 years possible. We start our 126th year this week with the same drive and dedication that helped get us where we are today.

We owe much of our good fortune to a simple philosophy: When we focus on the success of our customers and our communities, when the assets of our organization and the energy of our employee-owners is devoted to rising to the challenge of our customers’ projects, the world changes for the better.

We thrive on turning our clients’ dreams into reality and will continue doing so for the next 125 years and beyond.
