Sundt Employee-Owners Helping Phoenix Area’s Less-Fortunate

Heavy-AndreHousefortheHomeless(7) (1) In the spirit of Thanksgiving, employee-owners at Sundt’s Tempe, Arizona headquarters this month donated the equivalent of 8,858 cans of food to the St. Mary’s Food Bank.

Our quarterly Spirit Day on Nov. 13 kicked off with a drive to support St. Mary’s with canned goods, non-perishables and cash. Additionally, several community partners assisted to make an even larger impact on the community.

The drive was led by the Sundt Foundation, which was established in 1999 as a way for employee-owners to give back to the communities in which they live and work. The organization is primarily funded by employee-owner contributions that are matched by the company. The Foundation has awarded approximately $7 million in grants, primarily to non-profit organizations that serve disadvantaged children and adults in Arizona, California and Texas.

Founded in 1967 and based in Phoenix, St. Mary’s is one of the largest food banks in the country. Arizona’s hunger rates are higher than national averages: 17.8 percent of residents are food insecure, compared to 15.9 percent nationally, and 28.2 percent of Arizona children face hunger, compared to 21.6 percent nationally.

Our employee-owners’ volunteerism supports more than 100 worthy causes each year, including Habitat for Humanity, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, St. Vincent de Paul, United Instrument Disadvantaged Children’s Program and many more.

Our employee-owners wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving and encourage those with the means to consider supporting the charitable organization of their choice during the upcoming holiday season.
