The renovation of Old Main was substantially complete on July 1.

The president of the University of Arizona, Ann Weaver Hart, is in the midst of moving her office and staff into a historic building that Sundt just finished renovating in the heart of the campus. Old Main, the UA’s oldest building (built in 1891), was showing many signs of deterioration before Sundt embarked on the $9 million renovation/reconstruction project in late 2012. Now it looks fresh and meets current safety codes while honoring its historic “territorial hybrid” design. The education construction project was substantially complete on July 1.

As the project’s design-build contractor, Sundt:

– stabilized the perimeter stone wall, which lacked a foundation
– addressed and resolved subterranean water infiltration
– reinforced the brick columns
– reconstructed the second floor porch
– stabilized and leveled the second floor
– replaced metal roof shingles
– stabilized the chimneys
– rebuilt the second floor interior for administrative use
