Sundt Ranks 30th on ENR’s List of Top 100 Green Contractors

The Muir College Apartments project at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) was certified LEED Gold after being completed by Sundt in 2011.

ENR, one of the construction industry’s leading publications, ranked Sundt number 30 on its Top 100 Green Contractors list that was published earlier this month. It’s a distinction that means a lot to us because we have cultivated a culture of sustainability rooted in the belief that construction firms have both the opportunity and responsibility to affect positive change in the environment. With commercial buildings accounting for a third of all energy, water, and materials consumption in the U.S. and generating a similar proportion of pollution, our philosophy is based upon the principle that what is good for the environment can also be good for business.

The ENR report shows that our beliefs are shared by clients. Even in a sluggish economy, they care about projects that make use of environmentally friendly practices and materials, particularly when those features translate to reduced operating costs and lower long-term maintenance budgets. They turn to Sundt because we have the necessary experience and expertise.

“Sundt has built five projects that are LEED Platinum certified (including the first one in Arizona) and five that are pending Platinum certification.  Not many contractors can say that,” said Sundt Preconstruction Project Manager Dan Osterman. Dan has an extensive green resume, including his current position as board member of the both the USGBC Arizona Chapter – Southern Branch Governing Council and the USGBC Arizona Chapter. USGBC is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to educating and promoting the benefits of the sustainable built environment from the local to the international level. He also leads Sundt’s Sustainability Committee, which includes representatives from each of the company’s construction specialties.
