Airport Construction Project Wins Industry Award

The Terminal 2 Landside Expansion Project at San Diego International Airport won the CMAA San Diego Chapter’s Project of the Year award.

Sundt is pleased to announce that the San Diego International Airport Terminal 2 Landside Expansion Project received the Project of the Year Award from the San Diego Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA). The award is the top prize annually for outstanding achievement in the practice of Construction Management. Sundt performed the $230 million, design-build airport construction project with joint venture partner Kiewit Construction.  

The project was part of the airport’s four-year, $1 billion Green Build project. Kiewit-Sundt’s work included extensive additions and modifications to all of the roadways, bridges, transit and parking facilities in front of Terminal 2. Specific project improvements included the construction of: a 1,200-foot-long dual-level roadway that separates arriving and departing traffic, two exterior ticket lobbies (Smart Curbs), new expanded transit center, two pedestrian sky bridges, new USO and Parking Management office building, six bridge overpasses, new roadways, and reconstructed parking lots.
