During World War II, the Manhattan Project needed a complete city built in the mountains near Santa Fe, New Mexico, to house nuclear scientists and specialized research facilities. Sundt completed the super-secret Los Alamos project in just over a year, meeting the government's need for the critical facility that was integral to bringing the war to an end.
Since then Sundt has responded numerous times to requests for emergency assistance, repairing damage in Guam caused by a typhoon, cleaning up a military neighborhood in the Philippines that was buried under tons of volcanic ash, and building a flood retention structure in Los Alamos to protect a critical research reactor.
Answering the call for emergency construction takes highly skilled people who can assemble a team and move out in a matter of hours. Sundt has this capability and has demonstrated it on numerous occasions.
